How amazing has the sun been the past few weeks! Even on the days that there has been a bit of rain, it is still warm and humid out. It has been so nice to be able to get all my summer clothes out of the back of the wardrobe, but I have had to spend some time trying to keep my makeup from melting off my face! As I spend a lot of time looking after my skin, I have got to the stage where I have a pretty normal skin type bar a few dehydrated patches. With this heat though I find after a few hours I’m an oily mess and wishing I hadn’t bothered spending so much time trying to look put together.
I have been on the hunt for some great products that will stand the heat and keep me looking radiant as opposed to being a hot mess. Here is a quick roundup of my summer makeup essentials and a few different ways to change up your look with these products…
Smashbox BB cream
My mum bought me this for my birthday along with a few other Smashbox products and I was so grateful as I love the brand. I’ve only recently started using BB creams but I find they’re becoming an essential in my summer makeup routine. This applies so well and blends really easily. It sits so nicely on the skin and looks really natural and doesn’t feel heavy at all. I think thats a big factor when choosing a foundation to wear during the hot weather. Whatever you choose it needs to be light and I tend to steer clear of heavy, full coverage foundations. I love that when I wear this I can still see my freckles, it really just enhances my skin as opposed to completely covering it up. This will wear away in the heat, almost any foundation will, but as its so light it doesn’t go horrible and patchy. I do my makeup before leaving for work at half six in the morning and I get home around half six in the evening so thats a good 12 hours! Once I apply some powder during the day, my makeup is still fine when I get home.
Essence Waterproof Mascara
It’s essential for every girl to have a good waterproof mascara, especially during the summer months. When your hot and sweaty you don’t need to be worrying about Panda eyes on top of that. I suffer from hay fever so half the time I look like I’m about to cry. This is where the Essence mascara comes in. It just doesn’t run at all and doesn’t flake away halfway through the day. I feel confident when putting this on that it will still look just as good when I arrive home 12 hours later! I love putting a layer of this on even when I’m not wearing makeup to make my eyes look a little less sleepy. If your the type to wear makeup to the beach then I’d highly recommend this mascara, it does what you need it to do and is cheap as chips!
Paese Rice Powder
I’ve tried so many setting powders over the years and this is by far the best. I bought this at the Beauty Show in March and haven’t stopped using it. This sets my makeup perfectly in place without making it look cakey. This rice powder is so finely milled that it doesn’t settle into creases or enhance pores. What I also love about this is that it literally just sets my makeup instead of mattifying it. I’m not a fan of matt makeup, it just doesn’t suit me. I love a satin foundation or anything that will give me a radiant glow. The last thing I want is to counteract all the products I use to achieve radiance by covering up with a mattifying powder. The Paese rice powder ensures this doesn’t happen and for only ?12 the massive pot out performs a lot of the high end powders I’ve tried
Catrice Eye Primer
I almost never do my makeup without wearing eyeshadow. Even if its just a single colour swept across the eyelid. In hot weather, even my high end shadows need a little help to stay on my lids. I have tried the Urban Decay eye primer potion but for me its just not an affordable option. I wear makeup every day into work and most weekends so I need products that won’t break the bank. I find the Catrice Eye Primer brilliant for making my eyeshadow last all day. It is also lightly tinted so it doubles as a concealer on the lid to disguise any veins or discolouration. I apply this all over the lid, right up to my brow line. Normally I will set my eyelid with whatever transition colour I choose to use and I will sweep a soft cream shade under my brow line. I’ve been loving really simple eye looks lately as I think really dramatic eyes just look out of place for everyday wear. My go to shades would be Sable by MAC or 312 by Inglot all over the eyelid with a soft brown such as Toffee by Fuschia or 421 by Inglot in the crease.
Models Own Brow Gel
You may have seen I recently got Permanent Eyebrows so I really don’t need a lot of brow product. I’m so glad I don’t have to spend so much time with brow gels and pencils, they’d probably melt off after a few hours anyway! I have loved using brow gel though to set my brows into place and help add further definition. If you don’t fancy spending a lot of time mapping out your brows and would rather be out sunbathing, I feel you, then definitely give this a go. With a brow gel its so quick and easy to add some subtle definition and colour, without needing to layer gels and powders. I’m using the Models Own brow gel at the moment as I received a sample size a few weeks back but I’ve heard really good things about the Essence and Catrice versions which are both easily available and super cheap.
If you have any tips on how to help your makeup last in the constant heat and humidity, be sure to pass them on!
