Mini Makeup Haul

The other day I needed to go into Boots with my boyfriend to return the Babyliss Curl Secret curler that he got me as a present as it wasn’t working properly. I’m looking at buying a different curler completely as the Curl Secret was a complete let down and I feel bad he spent that much money on a crappy product.. I’ll do a full review if requested.

While I was in there I couldn’t decide what curler I wanted so I headed to the makeup shelves instead!
I have long been a fan of Revlon and find the quality of their cosmetics is great and for such a reasonable price. I also spotted the Sleek Makeup stand and couldn’t leave without picking something up from it too! Well thats what I told my boyfriend James 😉
So here is what I picked up, after about half an hour of moaning (on James’s part) and me colour-swatching way to many products, I realised I needed to make a decision and leave. I’m pretty sure at this stage my hand was an odd mix of pinks and reds… In the end I bought foundation from Revlon and lipstick from Sleek Makeup.

The foundation is Revlon’s Colourstay Makeup for normal/dry skin (also available for oily/combination) in the shade 150 Buff. I suffer from really bad skin and I find it hard to get foundations to sit right on my skin most of the time. A lot of the foundations I try end up sitting in the dry spots on my face and I look caked after an hour or two. I have been using this foundation for the past two years and have never had a bad experience with it! I always moisturise and apply primer before applying my foundation and this really helps keep it on all day.
Now the colourstay makeup from Revlon is supposed to last 24hours on, realistically who keeps the same face of makeup on for 24hrs on the trot? Definitely not me anyway. I do find this makeup stays on really well if I apply it correctly with a primer and don’t use too much setting powder. I have put this on for nights out and come home hours later and it is still perfect on my skin. It is a really heavy coverage foundation though so I wouldn’t actually recommend this for day wear unless you have some serious blemishes that need covering. I find it is best suited to the evening/night look and use a light hand when applying.
This is by far one of my favourite foundations on the market and at ?17.99 it is really good value! I highly recommend trying this out and I hope you like it as much as I do.

My second purchase was this True Colour Lipstick by Sleek Makeup in the shade ‘Liqueur’. This was what caused the delay getting out of Boots.. I couldn’t decide between this colour, ‘Barely There’ and ‘Russian Roulette’. I went with Liqueur in the end and I’m glad I did. It is such a nice colour and I find it really suits my skin tone. This is such a great colour for anyone with cool/yellow toned skin. I think it has the balance of pink undertones with the nude base just perfect. I think it is someway similar to MAC Viva Glam in that sense. I’m not saying its a dupe, because its not, but it is a great colour. (I hope you can see it ok in the swatch picture). It has a very luxurious and creamy texture on the lips which I love. I only swatched this lipstick and tried it for about 30 mins to see if I liked the colour so I’m not sure what the longevity is like. But for the really good price of ?6.49 and the colour payoff that comes with it, I don’t mind if I have to top it up! Also the packaging feels really elegant, theres something about a black lipstick tube, it makes every colour look great. I think I’ll be going back to buy more come payday..

So you won’t believe what happened me after taking these pictures…. I was cleaning up and knocked my new Sleek lipstick headfirst onto the floor! I AM SO CLUMSY! So after getting to wear the lipstick once I have already destroyed the top of it. Don’t get me wrong I’m still going to use it. I thought I’d share this with you so as to give you a ‘Top Tip’, ALWAYS put the lid back on your makeup before you start faffing about!
Thanks for reading guys,

(P.S. Just wanted to add in, the sales assistant in Boots in the Blanchardstown Centre was so good. I was afraid that they would refuse to let me return the curler or would only give a replacement, which I didn’t want. But Claire, I think that was her name, was so friendly and helpful. She listened to the problems with the product and offered me my money back straight away. Thanks Claire!)
